“Mulher” can be referred to as an EP on which numerous timbres fuse in a timeless tribute to the birth grounds of the band members: the African islands of Cape Verde. One of the main objectives was to keep the traditional, signature Cape Verdean music style alive, also for the younger generations.
The love for the African sounds is complemented by more modern influences, which, as the band members explained, came to be a part of the music almost effortlessly. All of them did grow up in The Netherlands, where they were exposed to many other different music styles: which has led to this mix of sounds.
The title “Mulher”, which is the Portuguese word for “woman”, already offers some strong clues as to what the EP chose to focus on: stories about powerful women, once again something that the band members directly associate with their homeland. As such, tales about the strength, the love and the beauty of a woman are sung extensively; often based on personal stories of the band members themselves. Women who played an important role in their lives were at the heart of the writing process of these songs.
